Bengaluru: An FIR has been filed against interim president of the Congress party Sonia Gandhi in Karnataka’s Shivamogga.

The complainant is a lawyer by name KV Praveen. The complaint is related to 11 May tweets on Prime Minister Citizen Assistance Relief In Emergency Situations (PM CARES) Fund.

“An FIR filed against Congress President Sonia Gandhi by KV Praveen at Shivamogga in Karnataka. FIR for has been filed for misleading tweets on PM Cares Fund from INC. FIR registered under IPC sections 153, 505,” journalist Pinky Rajpurohit wrote.

As reported by ANI, the complainant said, “They called PM CARES fund a fraud. They said on their twitter that it is not being used for public & that PM is going on foreign trips using this fund. These are rumours against govt in #COVID19 situation, so I filed a complaint (against Sonia Gandhi).”

More on PM Cares Fund:

The trust fund was formed on 27 March 2020. It is headed by Prime Minister (ex-Officio) and other ex-officio Members of the trust are Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.

The trust on 13 May decided to allocate Rs 3,100 crore for the fight against the coronavirus.
Out of Rs 3,100 crore, a sum of approximately Rs 2,000 crore will be earmarked for the purchase of ventilators, Rs 1,000 crores will be used for the care of migrant labourers and Rs 100 crores will be given to support vaccine development.

In fact, a petition was filed in the top court challenging the creation of the fund.

But the top court, while dismissing the PIL, warned the petitioner by saying that, “We will impose cost on you as this is a misconceived petition.  Don’t argue.”

This should have been a slap on the face of the Congress.
