Bengaluru: On the one hand, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and former chief minister Siddaramaiah are doing their best to mend fences, the disgruntled elements are in no mood to relent.

While this anarchy continues, how does one rectify the situation?

Political sources say that the solution lies with JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda.

“HD Deve Gowda is the most revered name in Karnataka politics. Everyone respects him. He must meet the Speaker (Ramesh Kumar) and prevail upon him to take a speedy solution. He should remember that it is the constitutional machinery that is malfunctioning. Being a statesman, he should work in the better interests of the society,” said a political source.

Sources added that Gowda should also summon his son and advise him that the mandate in Lok Sabha poll was against the JD(S), and therefore, he should approach the Governor Vajubhai Vala and put in his papers, conceding the fact that he is unable to hold the flock together.

The focus in resolving this conundrum is as much on the Governor as it is on Gowda.

Sources added, “Keeping the best interests of the state, the Governor has to summon Speaker Ramesh Kumar and prod him to take a quick decision. Moreover, he should also summon chief minister Kumaraswamy and ask him to take up the floor test. By doing so, he would be doing a great bit of justice to bring some sanity into the state politics.”

Karnataka has a notorious name for voting hung Assemblies. And the JD(S) has an equal share in being a disloyal partner.

Even in 2004, the JD(S) offered to support a Dharam Singh-led Congress coalition, but midway, withdrawing the support and offering it to the BJP.

However, as said, it is Gowda and Vala who hold the key.
