Bengaluru: The second phase of polling was held in Jharkhand today (December 7).
Voting commenced at 7 am.
Polling in 18 seats ended at 3 pm while voting in Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West ended at 5pm. It is pertinent to note that CM Raghubir Das is contesting from Jamshedpur East.
When news reports last came in at 6pm, polling concluded in all districts of the state, with voting percentage being recorded at 62.40% till 5pm.
Incidents of violence were reported as well.
One person lost his life as security personnel opened fire on assailants who police claimed tried to snatch their arms outside a polling booth in Jharkhand.
“Those injured were shifted to the hospital,” said Meena, who is the nodal officer for assembly election-related security measures.
In the second phase, as many as 20 constituencies went to polls. The BJP contested in all the twenty constituencies whereas the opposition alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress contested in 14 and six seats respectively.
In this round, the RJD, had no candidate in this phase.

Baharagora, Ghatsila (ST), Potka (ST), Jugsalai (SC), Jamshedpur (East), Jamshedpur (West), Seraikela (ST), Chaibasa (ST), Majhgaon (ST), Jaganathpur (ST), Manoharpur (ST), Chakradharpur (ST), Kharsawan (ST), Tamar (ST), Torpa (ST), Khunti (ST), Mandar (ST), Sisai (ST), Simdega (ST) and Kolebira (ST).
Earlier, PM Modi urged the voters to come out in large numbers and cast their votes.
A total 48,25,038 voters, including 23,93,437 female and 90 third gender voters, were eligible to vote in order to decide the fate of 260 candidates, including 29 women nominees and 73 independents.
Voting will go on till December 20 and the results will be announced on December 23.
