First Landing: A Symbolic Moment

The test flight, originating from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, landed at Jewar International Airport between 1 PM and 2 PM. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had granted approval for the technical assessment after rigorous safety checks. A ceremonial water salute greeted the aircraft upon arrival, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in the region's aviation history.

According to officials, the flight spent approximately 90 minutes in the air before making its final descent at Jewar. This exercise also provided an opportunity to test the coordination between the pilot and Air Traffic Control (ATC) under real-time conditions.

About Jewar International Airport

Jewar International Airport, located in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, is poised to become a game-changer in the NCR’s infrastructure landscape. Scheduled to commence commercial operations in April of next year, the airport will serve as the second major aviation hub in the region after IGI Airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in November 2021. Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is developing it in partnership with Noida International Airport Limited on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Features and projections

Spanning an expansive 1,334 hectares, the airport’s first phase is designed to accommodate 1.2 crore passengers annually. We expect the airport's capacity to triple by the end of this decade, eventually reaching 7 crore passengers in subsequent phases.
The signal-free Yamuna Motorway strategically connects the facility to Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi, enhancing accessibility for travelers across the NCR.

A leap toward progress

The successful landing of IndiGo’s test flight marks a significant step in Jewar International Airport’s journey toward operationalization. As April's launch date approaches, the airport promises to revolutionize air travel in the region, serving millions of passengers and boosting economic growth.
With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and seamless connectivity, Jewar International Airport is set to establish itself as a cornerstone of modern aviation in India.
