New Delhi: Newly-appointed environment minister Prakash Javadekar is taking the #SelfieWithSapling campaign launched on the World Environment Day a notch further.

He will plant a sapling on the premises of the Films Division in Mumbai on Friday and top stars of the Indian film industry are expected to join him.

Earlier on Wednesday, Javadekar planted a sapling amid a star-studded gathering at the Paryavaran Bhawan in New Delhi. The Union minister was joined by ace cricketer Kapil Dev, renowned actors Jackie Shroff and Randeep Hooda and famous folk singer Malini Awasthi.

Javadekar launched the #SelfieWithSapling campaign to spread awareness about environment protection.

Meanwhile, in Mumbai, he would take a tour of the National Museum of Indian Cinema, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in January this year.

The minister would also be interacting with top stars from the Indian film industry to exhort them to take the campaign forward in order to spread the message of sustainability, the importance of reduction of carbon footprint and the significance of conserving the environment for posterity.

Javadekar had launched the people’s campaign #SelfiewithSapling urging people to join and plant a sapling and post their selfie with the sapling on social media. He stressed that public participation was integral to tackling environmental issues and environment protection had to be a people’s movement.
