Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorized a 100-rupee price drop for LPG cylinders in honor of International Women's Day. The updated prices will take effect at midnight, according to official sources.

PM Modi took to the X platform to announce the initiative, especially for women on Women's Day.

Many party leaders, including JP Nadda and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, etc., expressed gratitude and stated that the decision was made for the public's welfare, quoting the Prime Minister's tweet.

Additionally, the Central government declared on Thursday that the Ujjwala Yojana would continue to provide impoverished women with a ₹300 per LPG cylinder subsidy for the upcoming fiscal year, which would begin on April 1.

In anticipation of Raksha Bandhan, the Union Cabinet gifted women with a 14.2 kg LPG cooking gas cylinder last year, which was discounted by Rs 200. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) recipients were also eligible for the price decrease.
A 14.2kg LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) cylinder in the national capital cost Rs 1,103 up until August 2023. But the rate dropped to Rs 903 following the price reduction.

According to a recent news story, the BJP's emphasis on women's welfare, including financial handouts and home amenities like piped water, round-the-clock electricity, and cooking gas connections, caused women, who had previously supported the Congress, to switch to supporting Narendra Modi.

What is the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana?
The Ujjwala Yojana Scheme was introduced by the Union Government with the slogan "Swachh Indhan, Behtar Jeevan." By 2019, the PMUY initiative hopes to equip five crore rural Indian families, especially those headed by women below the poverty line (BPL), with reasonably priced LPG connections, thereby encouraging a smoke-free atmosphere. In addition to tackling air pollution, deforestation, and health issues, the Ujjwala Yojana will result in a rise in the use of LPG. Applying the Ujjwala Scheme is the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas's job.
