The Indian embassy in Cambodia has rescued and returned several Indians stuck in a 'fake job' cyber fraud. These individuals were initially offered jobs by employment agencies in Cambodia, but were later coerced into participating in cyber crimes.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), around 250 Indians have been rescued and repatriated to India. 75 of them were sent back in the last three months. The Indian embassy is collaborating with Cambodian officials to retrieve all the individuals trapped there.

Speaking to the media, MEA official spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal said, "Our Embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from Indian nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work."

Many Indians were offered jobs in the IT sector in Cambodia but were forced to commit illegal cyber crimes and frauds. “We have seen media reports on Indian nationals stuck in Cambodia. Our embassy in Cambodia has been promptly responding to complaints from Indian nationals who were lured with employment opportunities to that country but were forced to undertake illegal cyber work,” Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal revealed that around 5,000 Indians are stuck in Cambodia and are being forced to carry out illegal cyber activities by employment agencies. “We are also working with Cambodian authorities and with agencies in India to crack down on those responsible for these fraudulent schemes,"  he added.

According to the Indian government, many advisories have been released by the Indian embassy in Cambodia and the government to alert and inform Indians about these job scams. The government is committed to rescuing and assisting any Indian national who appeals for support.
