Bengaluru: The Supreme Court’s historic judgement ordering that women officers shall be eligible for command posting in Army is being hailed across the country.

And that includes former AICC president Rahul Gandhi as well.

In a tweet he put out, he said, “The Govt disrespected every Indian woman, by arguing in the SC that women Army officers didn’t deserve command posts or permanent service because they were inferior to men. I congratulate India’s women for standing up & proving the BJP Govt wrong.”

But a little later, he was in for massive embarrassment and humiliation as BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi reminded him it was the Congress government that argued against women.

She said, “Mr Rahul Gandhi please click the refresh memory button. It was Congress govt that argued vociferously against permanent commissioning of women in the army back in 2010 before the Delhi HC. Decision challenged before the SC which ruled in favour of women? Mr. G,it was YOUR OWN govt.”

Rahul Gandhi is a leader which the Congress party can’t do away with nor extend full support as his goof-ups and blunders are literally untenable.

There are two other instances where Rahul Gandhi has put his party in a spot of bother.

Former deputy chairman of the now-defunct Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia revealing that former PM Manmohan Singh wanted to resign over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on an ordinance (in the year 2013) only shows how immature Rahul Gandhi can be.

Much before this in 2013, Rahul Gandhi had unnecessarily targeted the Hindu community.

Rahul Gandhi had told the then US ambassador thus: “Although there was evidence of some support for [Islamic terrorist group Laskar-e-Taiba] among certain elements in India's indigenous Muslim community, the bigger threat may be the growth of radicalised Hindu groups, which create religious tensions and political confrontations with the Muslim community".

Rahul Gandhi would be better advised to do his homework better before he utters sentences and levels allegations. Else, as always, he ends up becoming a laughing stock.
