Bengaluru: In a move that is welcome, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has started offering the RT-PCR test for Covid-19 on its campus from Tuesday for a discounted price of Rs 1,200, reports Economic Times.

The website quoted Jatin Goyal, managing director of Corosure and New Tech Medical Devices, as saying, “We are offering a 50% discount compared to most other private labs in Delhi.”
It is to be noted that the test is being conducted at a new Indian Council of Medical Research-approved laboratory opened on the campus.

The website added that the lab is using Corosure, a testing kit which uses the diagnostic assay developed by IIT Delhi.

The kits are being manufactured by New Tech Medical Devices.

It is to be noted that there are currently over 50 private labs in Delhi where Covid-19 tests are being conducted.

The testing facility was inaugurated by IIT Delhi director V Ramgopal Rao on Tuesday for institute employees as well as the general public.

The lab can cater to about 2,000 patient samples in a day. “We can expand the testing capacity as per the need. One does not need a doctor’s prescription or a prior appointment for the RT-PCR test,” Goyal said.

The sample collection facility will provide the test report within 24 hours.
