New Delhi: In a major setback to the armed forces, a soldier was killed and two others were injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded near forward post, along the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

According to the reports, the explosive was planted by enemies. An Army patrol of 12 Madras Regiment was going through the area at Dhera Dabsi when the explosion took place.

Officials said that reinforcement was immediately rushed to the spot and the injured soldiers were taken to a nearby Army’s health facility.

Meanwhile, two terrorists were killed on Wednesday by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the south Kashmir district of Kulgam, official sources said.

In February, a major-rank Army officer was killed in an IED blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir's Nowshera sector. The incident comes two days after the deadly Pulwama attack.
