The Indian embassy in Moscow confirmed on Wednesday that Mohammed Asfan, a young man from Telangana who was tricked into fighting for Russia and Ukraine, had lost his life in combat. The Indian Embassy in Moscow announced Mohammed Asfan's death on Wednesday in a post on X, but it did not provide an explanation or say what the Hyderabadi man was doing there. 

Mohammed Asfan's family contacted Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of AIMIM, to ask for help getting their son back from Russia.

According to the sources, Asfan, who was thirty years old, went to Moscow in December 2023 after being victimized by a work fraud. He was intended to enlist as a support team member, but instead he was enlisted in the Russian Army and deployed to battle near the border with Ukraine.

The man, named Surat's Hamil Mangukiya, had traveled from Chennai to Moscow after applying online for a job in Russia. The Russian Army then recruited him as an assistant.

According to media reports, some Indians are being compelled to engage in battle with Ukrainian soldiers in border areas after being tricked into joining the Russian military as security assistants.

In response to reports that 20 Indians became trapped in Russia, the ministry of external affairs had stated that it was in communication with Moscow and New Delhi.
