According to authorities, on Monday, five people allegedly became ill after having food at a restaurant and using a mouth freshener that had dry ice mixed into it. Out of the five, four have been admitted to the hospital.

In Sector 90 in Gurugram, Ankit Kumar was with his friends and wife at the Laforestta Cafe. His five friends—including his wife—can be seen sobbing and shouting in discomfort and distress on a video that Mr. Kumar took inside the cafe. Then, one of the males pukes on the restaurant floor as another woman continuously complains that her mouth hurts while putting ice in it. Since he was carrying his one-year-old kid, Ankit abstained from eating the mouth freshener.

It was reported that Mr. Kumar stated that they were unsure of what was included in the mouth freshener. Everybody in this room is vomiting. Their tongues are slashed. Their mouths are flaming. I'm not sure what kind of acid they gave us. Then he requests that the other customers of the cafe call the police.

At the Kherki Daula police station, a formal complaint was made against the waitress on Sunday, citing IPC sections 328 (causing pain by means of poisoning) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). A waitress was arrested on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and causing damage by poisoning.

Manager Gagan of Laforestta Café clarified, saying that the waitress had made a mistake. To keep food fresh, we utilize dry ice. Although this mistake was unintentional, they are fully cooperating with the police and all the ongoing legal processes.

What is dry ice?
Dry ice is dangerous because carbon dioxide turns into a gas when consumed in its crystallized form. Ingesting it can cause burning sensations in the mouth, oesophagus, and stomach, and in severe situations, it can cause stomach rupture. While serving various dishes, restaurants and bars frequently utilize dry ice separately to create a dramatic effect by releasing vapors and to preserve the food.
