The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) has recently taken down 18 OTT platforms consisting of vulgar and inappropriate content. Minister of Information and Broadcasting of India, Anurag Thakur informed the public about taking this action after giving multiple warnings. 19 websites, 7 apps from the Google Play store, 3 apps from the Apple App Store, and 57 social media accounts of the OTT platforms have also been blocked and are not available for public access in India.

All these platforms were extremely popular amongst the audience with a total of 3.2 million followers on social media. According to the ministry, one of the OTT platforms had more than 10 million downloads on the Google Play store and some of them had more than 5 million downloads.

It also mentioned the IT Act, Section 292 of the IPC, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, under which the action was taken against the platforms.
