New Delhi: Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) has detained former managing director of Religare Sunil Godhwani as a pending investigation of a fraud is going on against him. Godhwani was detained at Delhi's IGI airport while he was trying to fly abroad. He is facing allegations of financial irregularities.

"After getting a request of Look out Circular, Immigration Bureau detained him at IGI airport on Thursday morning while he was flying to United States of America," a source claimed.

Sources claimed that Godhwani was going to meet his son who lives in US when he was detained. The ministry of Corporate Affairs had sought a response from Godhwani on a complaint filed against him in the case of Religare Enterprises, which is under the scanner for alleged financial irregularities.

Religare Enterprises Ltd (REL) and Religare Finvest Ltd (RFL) have filed a complaint against him.

In the submission sought by the ministry, Godhwani has claimed that the complaint is part of a conspiracy hatched by the current management out of their ulterior motive to cover up their nexus between the erstwhile promoters and the majority shareholder of the company. Last year, the Singh brothers had blamed him for the troubles faced by the group.
