Punjab: A former MLA of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party from Barikot in Khyber Pakhtun Khwa Assembly, Baldev Kumar, has reached India. He reached India with his family to seek political asylum.

According to sources, 43-year-old Kumar doesn't want to return to Pakistan and he also has alleged that minorities including Sikhs and Hindus, are being prosecuted in Pakistan.

Kumar was charged with false murder case which occurred in 2016 and was acquitted in 2018. In the murder, Sardar Soran Singh, a lawmaker from Tehreek-e-Insaf party who was elected to the provincial Assembly on a minority seat, was shot dead in April 2016 in Buner district of the province.

Meanwhile, last month, the United States, the UK, and Canada raised the issue of suppression of religious freedom of Pakistan and slammed the nation for persecuting and repressing its religious minorities.

The incident has come at a time when Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been trying to take up the issue of removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir to corner India on every international stage available.
