Mandya: Actress-turned-politician and Ambareesh’s widow Sumalatha has been camping in Mandya for a long time now. Talking to citizens and trying to understand and respond to their problems has been on the top of her agenda.

Sumalatha further added that she was not behind power or position and all that she wanted to do was work for the betterment of the society. Reiterating that Mandya was her home, she emphasised that she doesn’t want to contest from anywhere else.

But today, DC Tammanna, another JD(S) leader from the region took a dig at Sumalatha by saying Sumalatha was very discourteous to people who visited her house. Adding to it, he said Sumalatha did not even have the bent of mind to offer a cup of coffee or tea to the guests, but now, wants to contest from Mandya.

Reacting to this, Sumalatha said she was ready to sit with  everyone and sort out issues. She added that she looked upon everyone like her own family and did not discriminate.

Though the JD(S) has fielded CM HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy from Mandya and Congress has openly said it will not be fielding any candidate, as the sitting candidate is from JD(S), Sumalatha has not lost hope. There are talks of her contesting as an independent.

On the issue of the Bharatiya Janata Party fielding her, she said that as of now, none had approached her. But if someone did approach her, she said she would sit with them and say what’s on her mind.

As of now, Sumalatha is restricting herself to election-related activities.
