Bhagvad Geeta, as we all know, was delivered during the epic battle of Mahabharata that took place between the Kauravas and Pandavas. It is set in the Dwapar Yug, which is roughly between 5000 and 5100 years ago. Many western historians have tried to shun this as a myth but scientific proofs have always established otherwise. One might question how a 5000-year-old text is still relevant today. I also had these questions in mind. But, when I read Geeta myself, I realised how relevant Geeta is even today.

Arjun discovered the problem of Sansar on the battlefield and thus rushed to Krishna to find the solution. Only when a person is not happy with oneself, one seeks external help. Arjun gets delusional in the battlefield and he questions the need for a war. He questioned why should he go for a war against those who are his own.

It is then we get to witness these immortal lessons of life. Lord Krishna, his charioteer delivers to him 700 shlokas, which today is known as the Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta.

It is said that for one to understand the wisdom of Geeta, one should undergo these four stages:

First, one should discover the problem of Sansar for which Geeta is a solution.

Second, one should long to be free from Sansar.

Third, one cannot immediately or independently solve the problem. One can only rearrange or reshape a problem.

And finally, one must always surrender to the Guru (teacher) without whom the learning of Geeta cannot take place.

The problem of Sansar as defined by Geta is the problem of attachment, grief and delusion.

In this series, I will be covering the 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Geeta and try to simplify this for all. This is my humble approach to understanding my religion and its relevance all over again. I hope we all get to enjoy this journey together.
