There is just one Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha who has always remained in the headlines, not for her work but for her controversies, that is Sadhvi Pragya Thakur. This Bhopal MP is devoid of any competition in this regard in the Parliament. She is accused in the Malegaon blasts, but the lack of proof against her allowed her to contest the Lok Sabha election and she defeated Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh by a huge margin of 3.64 lakh votes. Even an official reprimand from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi couldn’t deter her from making provocative statements on extremely sensitive situations.

Her most recent controversial statement came last Wednesday in the Lok Sabha. During a debate, she interrupted A Raja’s speech where he referred to the statement made by Nathuram Godse on why he killed Mahatma Gandhi.

Sadhvi Pragya said that Raja shouldn’t be citing the example of a Deshbhakt. Oh, this isn’t the first time she has called Godse a Deshbhakt. She had done this in the month of May as well for which PM Modi said that she may have asked for forgiveness for her remarks but he will never forgive her.

Following this remark, she was immediately removed from the Parliamentary Standing Committee of defence and she has also offered her apology twice in the Parliament.

However, her list of controversial statements does not end here. She had earlier said that the Congress was probably using black magic which had resulted in the deaths of so many BJP leaders. This even resulted in a gag order against her. She even had claimed that it was her curse that led to the death of ATS chief Hemant Karkare who had been a part to save Mumbai during the 26/11 terror attacks because he had tortured her during interrogation. Her list of statements is never-ending. What needs to be seen is her performance as an MP. She has till now attended all parliamentary sessions but is yet to ask a question. I surely do hope that despite all this, she stands tall for the mandate that the people of Bhopal have given her.
