Bengaluru: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that his government would give a sum of Rs 1000 per day to daily wagers and construction labourers in view of the Coronavirus outbreak. 

15 lakh daily wage labourers and 20.37 lakh construction workers are expected to make use of this benefit. 

 

The government would use Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to deposit the amount into the accounts of various beneficiaries. 

The chief minister also assured that his government is taking all the required measures to deal with the pandemic and urged his people not to panic. 

He also said, “I appeal people to not panic over coronavirus. We've sufficient stock of essential commodities and medicines in the state. So please don't rush to shops to buy things and hoard commodities.” 

This is one of the many steps Yogi is taking to contain the spread of the pandemic. 

Earlier, he had appealed to his people not to celebrate Ram Navami in public. 

"Chaitra Navratri is imminent and many devotees visit temples especially on the first, second, eight and ninth day. Fairs are also organised in many areas that see mass participation of people. In light of special circumstances, I appeal to the public to perform any religious ceremony at their homes so that the spread of the infectious virus can be prevented," Adityanath had said in a government press release on Thursday.

At the national level, Nirmala Sitharaman, finance minister too is mulling options to announce a financial package to deal with the crisis. 

In this regard, she had said, “I had a meeting with tourism, MSME, civil aviation, animal husbandry sectors. These ministries presented an assessment of their sector after consultation with their stakeholders,” as reported by Bloomberg. 

The virus has become a global menace and affected lakhs and killed thousands.
