Bengaluru: Congress is surely a divided house. Over the years, it has tried to ensure that Ram temple would not see the light of day. But all its efforts went in vain as the top court ruled in favour of Hindus and paved the way for the construction of the Ram temple. 

However, in the last minute, several Congress leaders – from Priyanka Gandhi to Digvijaya Singh to Kamal Nath to Manish Tewari- threw their weight behind the temple construction.

But now, it is back to square one, as its Thrissur MP TN Prathapan has written an open letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi for two of its leaders – Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh – supporting the temple construction. 

He even termed the move as “bowing low for the temporary successes”. 

He even rued that such moves compromise “sizeable demographic people who grieve the demolition of Babri Masjid, which was like an attack on their own conscience”.

He further added, “We can’t chase an extreme religious nationalism with its soft prototype. We need to realise this situation and should accept an alternative, immediately.” 

Just a few days before the momentous ground-breaking ceremony, Congress members resorted to all sorts of chicanery to prove themselves as pro-Hindu.

None other than senior leader Priyanka Gandhi equated the Ram temple to national unity, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath chanted Hanuman Chalisa and spokesperson Manish Tewari sang a song close to Mahatma Gandhi’s heart.

This is in stark contrast to how the Congress had behaved! Remember how the Kapil Sibals, the Shashi Tharoors and a gamut of public interest litigation activists made a beeline in top court, prevailing upon the judges to defer the hearing after the Lok Sabha  elections 2019 and the charade and  spiel of “no good Hindu wants a Ram temple in Ayodhya.”
