New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday did a blunder after wishing “Eid Mubarak” with a picture of a full moon on twitter. In reality, Eid marks the first moon after a new moon and appears to be crescent in shape.

Moreover, Eid-ul-Fitr has a special significance as it marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long fast that is observed by Muslims across the world. The date of this festival is only determined according to the lunar cycle and the Muslims begin their festival only when they can actually see the crescent moon.

Inevitably, Tharoor putting a picture of a full moon left the social media in splits.

Some internet users also raised an eyebrow about his dismal knowledge of a prominent Muslim festival, a community whose cause the Congress champions.

What is more shocking is that such a blunder is not expected from Tharoor, who is known for his knowledge and his exceptional command over the English language.

While one Twitter user said, “I thought the Eid moon is Crescent” another person said, “FullMoon ka pic??  ...fatwa jaari hogaa... delete kariye”
