Bengaluru: The Uttar Pradesh police killed dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey in the wee hours of July 10 as he tried to flee while returning to Kanpur, after he was arrested in Ujjain a day earlier. 

While the nation debates and discusses the veracity of the encounter, Baba Ramdev has thrown his weight behind the Uttar Pradesh police, adding such elements must meet their fate irrespective of the method.

 

 

He took to Twitter to express himself. 

He said, "Similar to Vikas Dubey, the remaining filth of politics and criminals' alliance should also be cleared like this. Justice to the gentlemen and punish the wicked. Whatever be the method."

 

It was on July 9 that Dubey was caught by homeguards at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain. He was later arrested by the police. Later, he was produced before a UP court through a videoconference. He was being brought to Kanpur when the encounter too place. 

He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. The gangster was the prime accused in the Kanpur ambush in which eight policemen were killed. "Dubey was injured in the encounter and he was declared dead in the hospital," ADG Kanpur range J N Singh said. The officer confirmed that Dubey "sustained injuries", but did not confirm to what extent, saying it would be revealed in the post-mortem report, as reported by Republic TV. 

 

It should be noted that eight policemen, including DSP Devendra Mishra, were ambushed in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur when they were going to arrest Dubey and fell to bullets fired from rooftops shortly after midnight on July 3. Earlier, five members of the Dubey gang were killed in separate encounters.
