Tourists flock to snowy destinations in November and December. In addition to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir, many are now discovering the Northeast, including Sikkim. This region is a paradise for nature lovers, but did you know that you’ll need to rely on flights and buses to get there, as Sikkim has no railway stations?

Why is there no railway station in Sikkim?

The primary reason for the absence of railway stations in Sikkim is its challenging geographical location. Nestled in the Himalayas, Sikkim features high valleys and narrow hills, making it a unique but difficult terrain for railway construction. Additionally, the state is prone to earthquakes and landslides, further complicating the task of laying railway lines. However, the situation is gradually improving. On February 26, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for Sikkim's first railway station, marking a significant development for the region.
