Chasing 167, Delhi were 144/3 but lost their last seven wickets for eight runs to be bowled out for 152 in 19.2 overs. Rishabh Pant scored 39 for Delhi.
Mohammed Shami took two key wickets to turn the match. He dismissed Pant and Hanuma Vihari (0). Shami finished with figures of 2/27 in four overs.
Colin Ingram scored 38, the second highest for Delhi after Pant's 39. He was caught by substitute fielder Karun Nair off the bowling of Curran, in the 18th over.
Kings XI Punjab celebrate their incredible win. Curran's hat-trick victims were Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichhane. "I didn't really know (about the hat-trick)," said Curran. "When we won the game, one of the players came up to me and said 'you've got a hat-trick'. I had absolutely no idea I had taken one."
Earlier, David Miller top-scored for Kings XI Punjab with 43. Thanks to his efforts, the home team scored 166/9 in 20 overs.
With Chris Gayle out of the match with an injury, Curran was promoted to open the batting. He made a 10-ball 20.
Delhi Capitals celebrate a wicket. Chris Morris was the best for them with figures of 3/30 in four overs. Rabada and Lamichhane took two wickets apiece.
