Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant's 27-ball 78 not out powered Delhi Capitals to a 37-run victory over Mumbai Indians in an IPL 2019 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday
Delhi Capitals's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant blazed his way to a 27-ball 78 not out with seven fours and seven sixes against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Thanks to his superb knock, Delhi won by 37 runs
Pant needed just 18 balls to bring up his half century. The No 5 batsman ensured that Delhi had a 200-plus score. The visitors posted 213/6 in 20 overs
Colin Ingram contributed 47 from 32 balls with seven fours and one six. The South African was the second highest scorer for Delhi after Pant.
Delhi boy Shikhar Dhawan scored 43. However, he and his partner Prithvi Shaw did not give Delhi a good start as Shaw fell for just seven runs.
Chasing 214, Mumbai were reduced to 95/5 in 11.2 overs. It was left to Yuvraj Singh to wage a lone battle. He scored 53 off 35 with five fours and three sixes.
Kieron Pollard took a superb catch to dismiss Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer (16) but the big West Indian failed to make a big impact with the bat. He was out for 21
Keemo Paul took one wicket, that of Pollard. He bowled three overs with figures of 1/21. Delhi were all out for 176 in 19.2 overs.
Pant won the Man-of-the-match award for his superb batting. While Pant alone hit seven sixes, Mumbai's entire innings had six hits over the fence.
Delhi captain Iyer, after the win, said, "To be honest, I was really well prepared to take on the captaincy. I've been leading India A as well as my domestic side. It's been a great experience so far, we've been bonding and training really well. Pant is a really destructive batsman."
