Mumbai: From the sweet, obedient daughter Iccha in Uttaran to the headstrong Jhanvi Morya in Daayan, television actor Tina Datta has played many roles on screen. Turns out her most difficult role was the one of a doting girlfriend in real-life to an abusive man.

In a recent interview, Datta spoke about her five-year-long stint in an abusive relationship, claiming that she never really wanted to go public with it.

Speaking to Bombay Times, she said, "I was in a relationship with a non-industry guy for five years. We had met through common friends. But I called time on it, because he was extremely abusive, verbally and physically. I would get bashed up even in front of my friends. I went bonkers to an extent that my confidence took a beating. I never wanted to go public with my relationship, but I feel that it's time to speak up."

On the work front, The actor is currently helming the supernatural series Daayan and also said, "Ekta Kapoor is a visionary and knows the pulse of the audience. The show Daayan was the best gift I got in 2018. I am looking to successful 2019. I feel blessed and wish all my fans and audiences a very happy new year."
