New Delhi: After a long wait, the teaser for Karan Johar's emotional production, Kalank, just dropped and the netizens are in a tizzy.

Though, you cannot really tell much from the teaser apart from the fact that the movie is based on the old world, pre-independence India. Actors Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapoor look like they are from an affluent family while the protagonist Varun Dhawan seems to be playing a character belonging to a humble background.

However, we definitely got a sense of déjà vu when Madhuri Dixit walked into the frame. Simply, because it was like travelling back into time onto a Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas set and watching Dixit play Chandramukhi.

From the limited information available, the actor may just be playing a similar role as a nautch woman, Bahaar Begum. Interestingly, the film was originally supposed to star Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt but the film was shelved after pre-production. However, the new edition features actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The movie is directed by Abhishek Varman who has earlier helmed 2 States.

The movie marks an extremely emotional project for johar since it was the last film worked on by his father, Dharma Productions helmer, late Yash Johar. The filmmaker-producer took to Instagram to share a heartfelt note calling it a 'film that was born in my heart and mind 15 years ago.'

Grand, opulent and truly regal, the teaser hints at Kalank being an intense love story about wavering loyalties. Packed with grand VFX and an opulent set, the teaser did give everyone major Sanjay Leela Bhansali vibes. Maybe KJo has taken some creative inspiration? Tell us about your take.
