It is happening! Hollywood actor Eddie Murphy is all set to reprise his role as Prince Akeem in the sequel to Coming to America.

The actor confirmed that the film is officially in the pipeline and will be directed by Craig Brewer, reports Entertainment Weekly.

"After many years of anticipation, I'm thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward. We've assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on 'Dolemite Is My Name', and I'm looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen," Murphy said in a statement.

Initially, in 2017, the studio had hired Jonathan Levine to direct the sequel to the classic 1988 comedy, but he has since bowed out.

The script of the movie is being penned by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris. The original story was scripted by Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield. The 1988 version revolved around a charming African prince (Eddie Murphy) who travelled to New York City to escape an arranged marriage.

Eddie Murphy's past credits include 'Norbit', 'Shrek' and 'Mr. C
