Mumbai: While it is known that actor Deepika Padukone is all set to play Indian acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her next, the title of the movie was under great debate.

Directed by Raazi filmmaker, Meghna Gulzar, the movie will also mark Padukone's debut as a producer. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Gulzar revealed that they were torn between naming the movie Gandhak (Hindi word for Sulphuric acid) or Chhapaak but have now, narrowed down on the latter.

Film critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce the film's title and also revealed that actor Vikrant Massey has been roped in to play the male lead. Speaking to the daily about the same Meghna said, “The cast is slowly coming together. Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since Raazi, after seeing him in A Death in the Gunj. In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part.”

Laxmi was a 15-year-old school student when she was attacked by a spurned suitor. She is now married with a daughter and continues to campaign globally for the rights of acid attack survivors.
