Guwahati: Indonesia, Sweden, Italy, Thailand, Bulgaria, Nigeria are not only country names, but these are also the names of some voters who will exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Meghalaya.

Believe it or not, but this is a fact that Indonesia, Sweden, Italy, Thailand, Bulgaria and Nigeria have voting rights in northeastern Indian state Meghalaya and they will vote and choose their representative to the 17th Lok Sabha on April 11.

Voting for two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, Shillong and Tura, will be held on April 11 and these are the voters of Umniuh Tmar village under Shella assembly constituency and Shillong parliamentary constituency in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district.

 Umniuh Tmar village, which is close to the India-Bangladesh border under Pynursla block has 1,146 voters in two polling stations – 38-Tmar and 37-Umniuh B.

 There are total 456 voters of which 207 are male and 249 are female voters at 38-Tmar polling station. On the other hand, a total of 690 female voters are registered at 37-Umniuh B polling station.

Interestingly, some people of the village also have names of some states, cities like Tripura, Goa, Kashmir, Bombay, Kohima, Mysore, Vellore, Dispur, etc.

 ‘I Have Been Delivered’ is another bizarre name of a voter of Tmar village. A 29-year-old Parliament Ryngnga and 24-year-old Assembly Ryngnga are sisters and they will exercise their franchise in this election.

The people of the area also have taken the names like Symbol, System, Discipline, Incharge, Really, Correction, Journalist, Dial, Circle, Liar, History, Carefully, Group, Wireless, Onida, Experience, Very Much, Request, Agreement, Release, Agenda, Table, Satisfy, Sweater, etc.

An 83-year-old Blis Khongdup said that the villagers have a fondness for English, but they didn’t know the meaning of that particular word.

Six candidates for Shillong Lok Sabha seat and three candidates for Tura Lok Sabha seats are in the fray in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and a total of 18,92,716 voters will decide their fates.
