New Delhi: Chandni Chowk or old Delhi has emerged as one of the key battlegrounds, which will see a fierce competition between Union minister Harsh Vardhan of the BJP, Pankaj Gupta of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Jai Prakash Agarwal of the Congress.

The constituency went to polls in the sixth phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on May 12.

BJP’s Harsh Vardhan is the incumbent minister of science and technology, minister of forest and climate change and of earth sciences. He is facing a tough fight from the Congress who has put forward their veteran leader Jai Prakash Agarwal in the fight.

Jai Prakash Agarwal is a former Member of Parliament from North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. He contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and defeated the BJP candidate.

Agarwal again contested in 2014 from the seat but lost to Manoj Tiwari of the BJP.

Pankaj Gupta is the national secretary and member of the political affairs committee (PAC) of the AAP since 2012. Gupta by profession is an IT professional and entrepreneur for almost 25 years.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Harsh Vardhan defeated Ashutosh of the AAP by a margin of 1,36,320 or 13.9% votes. The constituency witnessed a voter turnout of 67.8%
