New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from East Delhi, star cricketer Gautam Gambhir, is once again in trouble after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi Marlena claimed that he had two voter cards in two places in Delhi.

The district election officer has requested the Delhi Police to file an FIR against Gambhir for violating model code of conduct (MCC). Allegedly, Gambhir held a public meeting and a road show without police or EC permission on Friday in Delhi’s Jangpura area.

Marlena, who is contesting against Gautam Gambhir in the Lok Sabha election, filed a criminal complaint against him for allegedly having two voter cards in two separate neighbourhoods.

She has called for his "immediate disqualification" and has filed a criminal case complaint against Gambhir in Tis Hazari court.

Atishi claimed that Gautam Gambhir possesses two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh, and Rajinder Nagar and he can face up to one year in prison for the offence.

“I have filed a criminal complaint against the BJP candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over his possession of two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar,” she tweeted.

"Under Section 17, read with Section 31, false declaration in the matter of electoral rolls is punishable with jail time of up to one year," Atishi said in a series of tweets, with the hashtag #GambhirApradh.

Gautam Gambhir is a registered voter in Delhi's Karol Bagh as well as Rajinder Nagar, both of which fall under the Central Delhi parliamentary seat.

Joining her in demanding disqualification, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said, “Voters should not waste their vote on someone who will get disqualified soon.”

The former India opening batsman joined the BJP last month and was named the BJP candidate from East Delhi earlier this week. Gambhir is the richest among Delhi candidates, with assets worth Rs 147 crore. He replaced Maheish Girri as the BJP candidate from East Delhi, lining up a clash with Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress and Atishi.
