New Delhi: Actor-singer Farhan Akhtar tried to do a Javed Akhtar or Shabana Azmi on Sunday — attempted to make a political comment and take a political stand — but goofed up big time.

Time is of essence in what Farhan did as he appealed the voters of Bhopal to vote on Sunday against BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, but only a week after the city went to polls on May 12.

While Indore in Madhya Pradesh goes to polls today, Farhan became the butt of brutal trolling on Twitter where he made the appeal.

From being asked if he was drunk in the morning or had a bad hangover to being called uneducated, Farhan had to take a lot of pot shots. Also, Akhtar committed another political gaffe when he alluded to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984 in which the Congress and the then PM late Rajiv Gandhi are accused of facilitating the escape from India of Union Carbide’s Warren Anderson to the US.

Farhan will soon be seen on silver screen in Shonali Bose's The Sky Is Pink with Priyanka Chopra, and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Toofan.

Farhan has, following social media backlash, tweeted, " Humne tareek galat samjhi toh galaa pakad liya, jisne itihaas galat samjha use gale laga rahe ho." (Just because I got the date wrong you are at my neck. Somebody who has fudged history, you are embracing him).
