The upgraded 155 mm artillery gun Sharang was successfully test-fired at the Long Proof Range of Ordnance Factory Khamaria in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The gun, indigenously upgraded from 130mm to 155mm/45 calibre, has a striking range of 39 kilometres. As part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, the indigenously-designed artillery gun Sharang will soon be supplied to the Indian Army.

K-9 Vajra-T is a variant of the K9 Thunder, a South Korean self-propelled 155 mm howitzer developed by Samsung Techwin for the Republic of Korea Armed Forces. The Indian variant is manufactured by Larsen & Toubro under license for the Indian Army under the Centre's 'Make in India' initiative.

The Cabinet Committee on Security or CCS has cleared a deadly weapons and sensors package for the four guided-missile destroyers under construction at Mazagon Docks in Mumbai. The first of the destroyers, INS Visakhapatnam, is likely to be commissioned in 2021-2022. It will be followed by her sister warships, INS Mormugao and INS Imphal, while the fourth is yet to be named.

Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949. The day is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows in the national capital New Delhi as well as in all headquarters. Army Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens.

Indian Navy will soon get the first batch of indigenously-built heavyweight anti-submarine torpedo Varunastra, giving crucial firepower to the naval forces. This will make India one of the eight countries to have such indigenously-designed and built system.
