Bengaluru: The power of social media has resulted in an octogenarian fan getting featured in food and beverage giant Pepsi’s advertisement during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.

Charulata Patel, the 87-year-old cricket fan, was spotted during the India-Bangladesh group stage match at the World Cup 2019 last week. She was a big hit on the internet with her energy at the stadium as she blew vuvuzela in the stands.

After India won the match in Birmingham to qualify for the semi-finals, captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma met Charulata. Kohli had sought her blessings for the rest of the tournament and also promised her tickets to India’s matches at the World Cup 2019.

Kohli had tweeted the pictures of his meeting with Charulata and fans loved them with more than 3.74 lakh likes.

“Also would like to thank all our fans for all the love & support & especially Charulata Patel ji. She's 87 and probably one of the most passionate & dedicated fans I've ever seen. Age is just a number, passion takes you leaps & bounds. With her blessings, on to the next one,” Kohli had tweeted.

Charulata, who was born in Tanzania, has been an avid supporter of the Indian cricket team. Now, Pepsi has signed her up to feature her in their ‘swag’ advertisement campaign.

Pepsi India’s official Twitter handle posted a brief video where Charulata is seen with the caption, “Meet Mrs. Patel, Pepsi’s latest swag star”.

Charulata had come to watch the India-Bangladesh match with her granddaughter. As promised, Kohli had given them tickets for India-Sri Lanka match in Leeds on Saturday (July 6).

"Dear Charulataji, It is so inspiring to see your love and passion for our team and I hope you enjoy the games with your family. Lots of love and regards. Virat," Kohli wrote a letter to Charulata, as tweeted by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
