Thiruvananthapuram: After setting a T20I world record including a hat-trick on Sunday (November 10) against Bangladesh, India paceman Deepak Chahar almost took a second hat-trick two days later.

On Tuesday (November 12), Chahar captained Team Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Twenty20 tournament. He took four wickets for 18 runs in three overs against Vidarbha. He narrowly missed out on a hat-trick.

Against Bangladesh, Chahar took 6/7, best-ever bowling figures in T20Is. He claimed a hat-trick in the final over of the match as India won the third T20I in Nagpur and with it the series 2-1.

The match was reduced to 13 overs per side and in the final over of the Vidarbha innings, Chahar took four wickets off six balls including three off three legal deliveries.

After he took the wicket of Darshan Nalkande (12.4 overs), he bowled a wide. Then, he dismissed Shrikant Wagh (12.5) and Akshay Vinod Wadkar (12.6) off the fifth and sixth deliveries. He had started the over (12.1) with Rushabh Rathod’s wicket. The innings ended with Vidarbha on 99/9 in 13 overs.

In reply, Rajasthan fell short by one run as they scored 105/8 in 13 overs. Vidarbha won by VJ Jayadevan method (VJD method). Rajasthan were given a revised target of 107.

Rajasthan were off to a flying start, scoring 60/1 in 4.3 overs. However, they lost their next seven wickets for 36 runs to be 96/8 in 11.5 overs.
