Mumbai: Indian cricket team’s head coach Ravi Shastri will get a 20% hike in salary in his new contract, a media report said on Monday (September 9).

Recently, Shastri was reappointed as India’s head coach till the T20 World Cup 2021. The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) picked Shastri as the coach.

The CAC included 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev, former India women’s team captain Shantha Rangaswamy and former India batsman Anshuman Gaekwad.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Shastri will get Rs 9.5 crore to Rs 10 crore annually. This is a 20% hike compared to his previous salary in the same position. Earlier, Shastri was getting nearly Rs 8 crore.

Also, batting and bowling coaches Vikram Rathour and Bharat Arun respectively, will also get more. Arun is likely to get Rs 3.5 crore per year while it is the same for fielding coach R Sridhar. Rathour may get Rs 2.5 crore or Rs 3 crore, the report claimed.

After the ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales, the Indian team’s support staff got a 45-day extension to cover the West Indies tour. During the tour, the appointments were made. Batting coach Sanjay Bangar lost out to Rathour as the new contracts came into effect from September 1.

India’s next series is at home, from September 15. They host South Africa for three T20Is and later they play three Tests.
