Hyderabad: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have appointed England’s World Cup 2019 winning coach Trevor Bayliss as the franchise’s new head coach, the team announced on Thursday (July 18).

SRH have decided to part ways with Australian coach Tom Moody. He was with the team from 2013. Under his guidance SRH won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2016.

Bayliss is currently the coach of England national team and he will quit the position after the Ashes series this year. England beat New Zealand on boundary count in the tied World Cup 2019 final at Lord’s on Sunday (July 14). The Super Over too had ended in a tie.

Bayliss guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL title and also was the man in-charge when Sri Lanka reached 2011 World Cup final, which they lost to India. Also, as head coach of Sydney Sixers, he won Big Bash League (BBL) and Champions League T20.

“After very careful consideration, the Sunrisers franchise has decided to take a different direction with the Head Coaching role and will be parting ways with the services of Tom Moody,” SRH said in a statement.

“Trevor Bayliss, England's 2019 World Cup winning coach, has been appointed Head Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Trevor has already won 2 IPL trophies with KKR and has also won the Big Bash League and Champions League T20 with Sydney Sixers. He is a proven winner and we feel that his successful track record will be ideal in taking Sunrisers Hyderabad forward,” it added.

The franchise thanked Moody. “We would like to thank Tom Moody who has made an enormous impact with the franchise helping us achieve 5 playoff appearances over the past 7 years, including a much treasured championship in 2016. We would also like to thank him for his work ethic and leadership over our journey and wish him all the success moving forward.”

In a tweet, Moody said, "It’s been a privilege to work for Sunrisers Hyderabad, I have made many friendships and good memories. The success we’ve enjoyed over the 7 yrs is a testament to a hard working team on and off the field. A special thank you to the players, support staff and all the fans."
