Bengaluru: India cricketers Rohit Sharma and Mithali Raj have donated to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund) to help the country fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

India men’s limited-overs team vice-captain Rohit contributed Rs 80 lakh on Tuesday (March 31). The Mumbai batsman took to his Twitter account to announce that he has donated Rs 45 lakh to ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund), Rs 25 lakh to Maharashtra chief minister’s relief fund, Rs 5 lakh to Zomato Feeding India and Rs 5 lakh  for the welfare of stray dogs.

“We need our country back on feet & the onus is on us. I’ve done my bit to donate 45lakhs to #PMCaresFunds, 25lakhs to #CMReliefFund Maharashtra, 5lakhs to @FeedingIndia and 5lakhs to #WelfareOfStrayDogs.Let’s get behind our leaders and support them  @narendramodi @CMOMaharashtra (sic),” Rohit wrote on his Twitter page.

Mithali, the Indian women’s ODI team captain, has donated Rs 10 lakh (Rs 5 lakh to PM CARES Fund and Rs 5 lakh to Telangana chief minister’s relief fund).

“All of us need to join hands in this fight against the deadly coronavirus. I pledge to contribute my little bit -    Rs. 5 lakh to The PM - CARES Fund and Rs 5 lakh to the Telangana Chief Minister’s Relief Fund . #PMCARES @PMOIndia @narendramodi Ji @TelanganaCMO (sic),” Mithali tweeted on Monday evening (March 30).
