Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan's drama Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior hit the screens last Friday and created a storm. It looks like the movie is going to be riding the wave of success for many days.

The movie drew controversy with a section of the media attempting to portray that the movie was on religious lines and showed only Hindus in good light.

Ajay Devgn had clarified that the movie does not show any religion in a bad light and the movie is about defending the country from foreign invaders.

Now that the movie’s out, it gives people a chance to find out the truth.

While few took this as an opportunity to carry on their negative speeches, there are many who have praised the movie for what it is.

Nupur J Sharma took to Twitter to state," Tanhaji reviews: Hinduphobic portals go mental as the movie wows the audience with visual grandeur and cultural pride."

The historical movie has received positive reviews from most of the movie critics and audience.

But some took time out to watch the movie and had more time to connect dots that they themselves had created.

The Wire did not like the Ajay Devgn-starrer historical drama. They said the movie is less of a feature film and more of a presentation to PM Modi and Amit Shah to realise their egregious ideas about the nation. Adding more drama to their spin, the Wire stated that Tanhaji speaks about the country when it is on the brink of being torn, and that it is a tribute to Hindu Rashtra.

The Quint had reviewed the movie twice. Many took to Twitter and mocked them for their two reviews. One of the reviews said that the movie is an Islamophobic film. They too tried to link the movie to the BJP.

“The underscoring of the characters’ religion, however, occurs most prominently during the songs. From ‘Maay Bhawani’ to ‘Shankara Re Shankara’, the songs picturised on Tanhaji and his wife Savitribai Malusare (played by Kajol) seamlessly integrate religious positivity with the side of the protagonists. By association, therefore, Tanhaji and those fighting with him receive divine sanction in the minds of the viewers. They are righteous. They are the ones fighting the good fight,” wrote the Quint.

No matter how many times one sees the movie, it sure will not make a difference if one goes in with a prejudiced mind. The narrative that is told to those who have not seen the film definitely attempts to stray far from the objective of the film.

However, there are the ones who have seem to have seen the movie that Ajay Devgn was talking about.

Bollywood hungame:  Tanhaji depicts the bravery of Tanhaji Malusare, a legend in Maharashtra, but largely unknown elsewhere. The film is mounted on a huge scale and moreover, has a terrific star cast, both of which have contributed to its hype.

News 18: Ajay Devgn is probably an underrated producer. Be it Raju Chacha, U Me Aur Hum, Shivaay and now Tanhaji, he has always experimented with new techniques. They worked or not is a separate thing, but these movies bring out how he is willing to raise the stakes.

The Om Raut-directed movie, set in the 17th century, is based on the life of Tanhaji Malusare, the military leader of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's army. Tanhaji played an instrumental role in taking back the strategic hill fortress of Kondhana from the Mughal empire.
