Christchurch: A gunman opened fire on two mosques in central Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday, which led to the killing of multiple people. Almost 49 people are dead and 48 injured. New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, said it was "one of New Zealand’s darkest days".
What has happened in Christchurch is an extraordinary act of unprecedented violence. It has no place in New Zealand. Many of those affected will be members of our migrant communities – New Zealand is their home – they are us.

According to police four people are in custody but are unsure if there are multiple people involved in this coward attack. The attacks occurred at Masjid Al Noor mosque and Linwood Masjid.
The police in its brief said the gunman entered the mosque in central Christchurch at 1.40 pm local time and opened fire. Currently, Christchurch is under lockdown and police have given instructions to remain inside and inform them in case of any suspicious activity in their vicinity.
The victims of the shooting were taken to Christchurch hospital and are under treatment at the emergency department although the total number of fatalities are not yet ascertained.
The Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison said he was "horrified" by the reports and added "our thoughts and prayers are with our Kiwi cousins".

One eyewitness told the press "he saw a man dressed in black entering the Masjid Al Noor mosque and heard dozens of shots, followed by a number of people running away in terror"
Reports state at the time of attack the Bangladesh cricket team was inside the church but are safe. The Bangladesh team is in New Zealand for an ongoing cricket series.
