Taroudant (Morocco): As many as seven people were killed on Wednesday (August 28) after a river flooded a village football ground where a game was played in south Morocco.
According to reports, the deceased include a 17-year-old boy and six older men attending the match in the village of Tizert, in Taroudant region. However, the names of the deceased were not released.
According to a rescue mission officer, the team rescued a man who was injured by the flood and was looking for another missing person.
Speaking to a reporter, a resident from the village said that the dried river began to swell and submerged the football field where an amateur football tournament took place.
The pictures and videos shared on social media displayed marshy waters carrying away people who had climbed on top of a building destroyed by the flood.
Earlier, Morocco's national weather service had warned the residents of the stormy rains in several territories.
Also, the flash floods in Morocco had claimed 15 people's lives on July 15 where the people were stuck in a landslide caused by flash floods in the south of Marrakesh.
Earlier in 2014, the flash floods had killed more than 40 people and caused significant damage in North Africa.
