Tamil Nadu forest officials arrest four bird hunters, impose Rs 20,000 fine

Ramanathapuram: Four men were arrested by forest officials on Wednesday after they were caught hunting birds in Ramanathapuram's Therthangal bird sanctuary. The officials recovered five birds - one heron and four egrets - from them. The accused have been identified as Murugan, Pandisamy, Pullani and Kotai belonging to the same district.

According to police reports, the four accused hunted the birds for consumption. The accused were charged under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and were slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000 each. They will be released from custody only upon payment of the fine.
