Mandya Lok Sabha independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh, who is supported by the BJP, stood in a long queue at a polling booth in Doddarasinakere in Mandya to cast her vote on Thursday. Sumalatha is contesting against Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil, who exercised his franchise from Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency. Campaigning for Sumalatha in Mandya was high profile as Kannada film actors ‘Challenging Star’ Darshan and KGF star Yash supported her and took part in rallies. This is the first time Sumalatha is casting her vote in Mandya without husband Ambareesh, who passed away in November 2018. Hundreds of supporters were seen shouting slogans for her at a distance outside the polling booth.
