Chennai: As the Election Commission (EC) announced the cancellation of polls in the Vellore Lok Sabha constituency after a massive haul of cash was seized, DMK treasurer Durai Murugan said the Income Tax (I-T) raids on him and his aides were a political conspiracy by certain political leaders.
Murugan added that he had not concealed anything. He also said that he had seen several violations of election rules by ruling leaders and the EC had quite easily ignored the news on the distribution of cash for votes in Theni and at various other places.
Several crores of rupees were seized from places connected with Murugan and his son Kathir Anand, who is the DMK candidate from Vellore. Murugan’s house was also raided by I-T officials.
