Abhinandan's father Air Marshall (retd) Varthaman Simhakutty, mother Shoba and close relatives Prasad Ajit, Usha Ajit Prasad and Ashok Banukumar took the Indigo flight at 10:35 pm on February 28 from Chennai. The family of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman left for Delhi to welcome the bravo. Pakistani forces would release him on Friday. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced in the Parliament on Thursday that Varthaman would be released on Friday as a “peace gesture".
