Kolkata: In Bengal, particularly in the election time, anything has the potential to turn into an electoral agenda. So, why would Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar be left behind?

After Tuesday’s brutal faceoff between Trinamool and BJP cadre that ended with a bust of Vidyasagar being vandalised, it has been turned into a poll issue by Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee is contesting BJP's 'aggressive Hindutva' with 'Bengali ethos' and the social reformer is being projected as one who represents Bengali-ness.

Banerjee held a massive protest on Wednesday apprehensive of a loss in Kolkata, which has traditionally been a green bastion.
