These Indian Women Naval Officers Proved That No Ocean Is Too Vast

On December 2, Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi became the first-ever woman pilot in the Indian Navy as she joined operational duties at the naval base in Kerala’s Kochi. 24-year-old Shivangi, who was born in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, will be flying the Dornier surveillance aircraft, used by the navy for transport and maritime reconnaissance. These aircrafts are also used in rescue missions including the medical evacuations. Today on Indian Navy Day, along with celebrating Sub-Lieutenant Shivangi’s achievement, let's also recall the fight of a few other officers who’ve made inroads in breaking stereotype that’s associated with women joining the naval forces.
