Ramanathapuram: While Tamil Nadu is suffering from severe water shortage, the residents of Kozhunthurai village in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, moved to the collectorate complex and staged a "kudiyerum porattam" (which roughly translated to shifting their residence to the collectorate’s as a mark of protest). This protest was held inside the premises on Wednesday (June 26).

As many as 100 people, including women from the village in Mudukulathur, came to the collectorate complex with grocery items to literally "settle down" there. They fought against acute drinking water crisis and lack of basic facilities.

However, the officials from the collectorate office promised the protesters that higher authorities would be notified about their drinking water problem following which suitable action would be taken.
