Madurai: Six teenagers allegedly hacked a 45-year-old tea shop owner for refusing to serve them tea free of cost. The accused are apparently known for creating nuisance in surrounding areas when drunk. The incident has been captured on CCTV camera and police are examining the footage to identify and track down the accused.
Teashop owner Marimuthu of Krishnapuram Colony apparently demanded that the teenagers pay for the tea they drank. This led to a heated argument between the teenagers and Marimuthu. They attacked him and stabbed him with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Passers-by admitted Marimuthu to Government Rajaji Hospital, but he was declared brought dead. Police have registered an FIR under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and have detained two suspects so far.
